Explore and be inspired while forest bathing at the Lake Superior Zoo. Different from a nature hike, being fully in the present moment gently awakens awe and discovery. Technology is set aside to plug into the healing and calming power of nature.

During the 2 hour session a series of guided invitations are intermixed with walking slowly, sitting in silence, mindfully observing nature, and sharing what is witnessed. There is a mix of solo and group time.

The session concludes with tea and light snacks. Return home to your place of belonging as part of what is wonderfully wild.

Our sheep got their new summer do's today!

Our Director of Animal Management, Lizzy, and some of our barnyard keepers got to work this afternoon shearing our sheep. Sheep shearing is an annual process of removing a sheep's fleece using mechanical or manual clippers. It's a process that is vital for domesticated sheep, as they do not shed their wool on their own. Shearing helps not only to prevent overheating (heavy fleece traps both moisture and heat), but also to remove bulky wool that could start to restrict their movement and make them extremely uncomfortable!

Lookin' good, sheep!

Did you know that Lake Superior Zoo has an Amazon Wishlist?

As you walk around our grounds, you'll notice various enrichment items in our animals' habitats; many of these were purchased by supporters for our specific animals.

We asked our Curator, Emily, what some of our most needed items were. Here were some of her highlights:

For Danny, our Capybara: https://ow.ly/180050Z7lxE

"I would like to try something like this for the capy, he is an aggressive chewer, but hopefully a bed like this would last a little while!"

For Lydia, our Sand Boa:

"This is made for fish, but would work really well for our sand boa, Lydia!"

"These would be really fun for our hooved animals!"

"These cones would be fun toys for many of our large carnivores!" (See photos of Kiran with the traffic cones from mid-May 😂)
