Eventful day yesterday as we delivered and installed this 1920 Brunswick Mission B pool table to a very nice family in Clam Lake, Wisconsin. Had to scurry to get this table completed in time for a big party they’re having today and thanks to Jerimy Chambers of Chicago for getting up at 4:00 am and driving to Duluth, loading up the table and delivering it to Clam Lake and driving back to Chicago. Long day but happy customer makes it all worth while. This table came out of the Superior Elks Lodge and I restored it myself in spite of all my physical limitations.

Anybody remember this diner on Garfield Ave? Best soup and sandwich deal ever. Two sisters past normal retirement age ran it during the glory days of the grain business in the 60’s and 70’s. Breakfast and lunch and you were lucky to get a seat in there.

Somebody in my happy hour crowd at the Pickwick referred to Babe Ruth as ‘this fat guy who hit a lot of home runs against inferior pitchers back in the olden days.’ Does he look fat to you? Hit more home runs in one season than the entire league combined one year. Lifetime batting average about 345. Plus he was a great pitcher. GOAT for certain and whoever is number 2 isn’t even close. No athlete in any sport has ever dominated his sport like Babe. You’re welcome.

This is where the Raddison Hotel now sits. Reliable Sports was the fisherman’s hotspot in the 60’s. Annual steelhead contest where fishermen would enter their catch and the biggest registered fish would win a cash prize. Pretty big deal when I was a teenager. Bert Silverman was the store manager. Heart of the Bowery in Duluth. Some genius decided that this part of town should be torn down to beautify our town. Spalding Hotel and much of the character of our city was wiped out early 70’s. Now look at downtown. It is sad.
