Once upon a time, the United States postal service smashed this custom stained glass piece to bits right after I shipped it 🫠

Every single side of this house had at least one broken piece (6 total), so it was a big question mark if I would be able to fix it. The time put into making this commission was already lost, but I knew I had to try and salvage what was left. Specifically, the wire details took the longest to solder and I used up the rest of my 'grass' glass so I wanted to keep all of that intact as well as I could.

This was a learning experience to say the least. I've never disassembled and reassembled a 3D stained glass piece before. It was easier than I expected to fix, but I don't wish this on anybody 😅

My first attempt at making a stained glass house. This piece took me over 3 hours to solder. I would definitely do things differently the second time around, but I think it turned out pretty cute. Never stop adding whimsy to your space!!!

If you're wondering why there's carpet on my table— my house came with it (no idea why) but it's kinda nice for stained glass. It's soft so I don't have to worry about breaking pieces, and the bits and bobs just kinda fall into the cracks so I can vacuum it up afterwards. It's weird but it works!

Fun fact: a long time ago, shortly after turning 18, I got kicked out of my house and I had nowhere to live. I was in a long term relationship and my boyfriend's Mom .mgc took me in for about a year until I could get on my feet. I basically owned nothing, had no money and no plan for what I wanted to do in life. I gave Ann some money for "rent" even though it was never asked or expected of me. When I moved out, she gave me all of that cash back. To her, it may not have felt like much but it literally changed the course of my life. Up until that point, love was always transactional in my life.

Fast forward 10 years later, I had the opportunity to make this custom blue bird for Ann. It brought a smile to my face to be able to make something meaningful for someone who made such an impact on my life 🐦
