Recently we had a fundraiser for Youth in Harmony where people donated not only money, but words to use in a tag! We raised $275 and had two words submitted. Thank you for your support! The words were "hullabaloo" and "mordent." Mordent is a musical term that means there is a brief trill on a note, up and down.
Eric Ruthenberg crafted the tag phrase and arrangement, and Daily Special have recorded themselves singing it! Sing it with your pals! Check us out and donate at HXNE.org today!

What an amazing time we had at HXNE Schenectady 2026! 32 young singers, joined on a concert by the members of , , , .city.chorus, , Electric City Chorus. Barbershop is alive and well in New York's capital region!

We need your help to create an awesome tag to sing! You get to pick a word that will be in the tag and a number from 1-12 that will represent a tone in the melody. Then our illustrious arranger will use those words and tones to create a tag that will be published on Facebook for all to sing! Not only that, but you can help defray the costs of our HX program. HXNE Schenectady is so excited for the return of Chad Putka as our Varsity Chorus director! Sign up for our January 10th workshop at hxne.org/schenectady

Chad Putka is a conductor, music educator, and singer dedicated to compassionate, community-centered choral leadership. He holds degrees from Oberlin College/Conservatory and Boston University. Chad co-founded and directs Voices United, New England’s premier mixed voice barbershop chorus, and serves as assistant conductor for The Cardinal Chorale. He teaches general music at Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, and is active in the state’s music education community. A lifelong vocalist, Chad performs with the award-winning quartet Daily Special and and has toured internationally with the social justice ensemble VOICES 21C.

That's a wrap on an incredible weekend of barbershop music! The first three day Harmony Explosion Camp Northeast since 2019, and the first ever time to include a Junior Varsity (middle school age) chorus! Campers were lucky to work with Melody Hine, Elyssa Hurley, Deke Sharon, Tres Leches, and Catalyst. We'd also like to give a big thank you to all the staff and chaperones who made the weekend possible!
