Dubuque Museum of Art Established in 1874, the Dubuque Museum of Art is the oldest cultural organization in Iowa. The collection includes significant works by Grant Wood, Edward S.

The Dubuque Museum of Art’s permanent collection focuses on 20th century American art with an emphasis on American Regionalism. The Museum’s priority is to collect and exhibit works by regional artists recognized at the national, regional, and local levels. Curtis, and John Vachon. Local artists represented in the collection include Francesco Licciardi, Dorothy Rossiter, Mauricio Lasansky, and Arthur Geisert.

Meet Your BECOMING Gala Host, Maureen Quann ✨

Maureen’s connection to the Dubuque Museum of Art began long before she joined our Board of Trustees in 2019. She spent years volunteering at DuMA alongside her mother, Jeanne Quann, who instilled in her a love of art and a belief that art enriches the lives of everyone in a community.

A Dubuque native, attorney, and dedicated community volunteer, Maureen has continued that legacy through her service to DuMA and organizations throughout our community.

On September 18, she’ll help welcome you to BECOMING: Transformation in Motion, an evening celebrating art, community, and the exciting future taking shape at DuMA.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you. 🌿

Thank you to all the artists and musicians who joined us at Shake the Muse Arts Jam with artists C.A. Morris and Rose Frantzen.

Artists were prompted by C.A. Morris’ Shake the Muse web app to create something in a particular aesthetic, creative POV, emotional tone, and distortion of form.

The first round was cute/sentimental, abstract surrealism, calm/contented, and haphazard.

Watercolor for Beginners (Tuesdays) with Sara Hilby. Designed for beginners, this course invites participants to explore the watercolor medium in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Participants will build confidence and develop foundational skills as they learn about the watercolor process, characteristics, papers, paints, brushes, and essential techniques. Through guided practice and small paintings, participants will gain experience in watercolor.

Join us at DuMA on Saturday, August 22, from 1 to 3 pm as we celebrate the culmination of a six-week art program in which students created work centered around themes of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

The exhibition will be on view in the DuMA lobby through August 30.

This program is presented in collaboration with Bluff Strokes Art Center, with support from a grant provided by The Dubuque Community Foundation.

About the exhibition:
Dubuque Unidos and the Dubuque Museum of Art invite Latinx, Hispanic, and Indigenous artists—whether through heritage, culture, or descent—living within 300 miles of Dubuque to submit artwork for "Entre Tonos." Inspired by living between cultures, "Entre Tonos" highlights the many voices and artistic expressions of Latinx and Indigenous artists in the Midwest. The exhibition welcomes portraiture, abstract work, photography, textiles, sculpture, installation, digital, and mixed media pieces exploring themes of identity, memory, place, emotion, spirituality, transformation, and contemporary experience.
