Caught this pic the other night. I haven't been able to make the time to paint the past few days but I've been gathering inspiration. Whenever I can get a good view with a lot of sky, I feel inspired.

Sometimes, it's hard to keep going. I like to paint pre-made ceramics to keep painting without any pressure. Painted these coasters for my grandma last week!

Well, "Butterflies in my Stomach" is officially complete in its current state! Just dropped it off at the gallery at Planted! Very excited to see the whole group exhibit together. Thanks .dbq for the opportunity! The "Love Takes Many Forms" opening is this Friday from 6-8 if you want to check it out!

All through school, I fought against abstraction, especially abstract expressionism. I'm finally accepting how comfortable it feels to make. Showing is terrifying! But the process is what's important.

WIP - Aphrodite's Garden? I'm slowly working on this here and there.

I feel like there isn't enough going on in this composition. Any suggestions? Maybe Cupid/Eros can pop in somewhere. Or anything from other Aphrodite myths?

WIP? "Butterlies in My Stomach" 24 x 36" acrylic

While I have another painting in the works, I felt the need to try something new. I was inspired by that warm, fuzzy, scary, exciting feeling of butterflies in your stomach before a date you're really excited about, when you really click with someone and you're excited to see where it goes, when you get proposed to or propose to someone, or when you realize you are toppling over in love, etc.

I thought it was done....but as I ruminate on it, I think I have a few more elements to add. But I wanted to share my experimentation to show the bit of the process that's scary and uncertain, but necessary for growth.

Step 1: get a mid-sized oval frame or mirror

Step 2: clean and prime the mirror

Step 3: make the art!

I'm so excited to start another project! I'm jumping back into the work I did for my senior solo show years ago, which was mindscapes. I used landscape to depict different mental states. At the time, they mostly took sculptural form, but some translated well to painting.

This is further exploration of mindscapes and the forms they can take. This mirror will be a portal to a fantasy garden....assuming all goes as planned.

III - The Empress

It was really fun diving into the symbolism of The Empress card to inform my creation of this goddess. She is an embodiment of female power.

I look forward to exploring her and the rest of the Major Arcana in future work.

Process pics from the first oil painting I've completed in 10 years!
It felt so good to paint this skateboard.

It will be on display with soooo many other amazing skateboards at The Smokestack, starting with the opening tomorrow (Friday, 1/3) through the end of January.

It's done now. "The Shot Tower" 8ft x 4ft acrylic on plywood, "portable mural". Inspiration: the Dubuque, IA shot tower. And abstracted view of the interior, as the molten lead was poured to create bullets.

Almost done with this mural! 4ft x 8ft acrylic/latex paint on plywood for a local organization. Inspired by the Dubuque Shot Tower. Just needs a few more layers of metallic paint.
