What do you see/feel when you look at this painting? For me, I see the experience of trying so hard to open up and become your true self, but still having reservations.
I love abstract art because everyone sees something different and it can mean many things to many people.
In a lot of my newest paintings, I’ve started layering in veins of gold or silver texture, as a nod to the Japanese art of repair you may have heard of, Kintsugi. Basically, it’s a concept that highlights the beauty in the broken where they take broken pieces of ceramic and repair them with gold. I relate to this so strongly (and I’m sure you probably do too) because as I experience emotions or life events, it’s never perfect. Even trying to be yourself can break you down before you build back up.
