This portrait was a special one! I was asked to paint the elementary school where I used to work as a third grade teacher as a gift to my former principal on his retirement. I was so honored to paint it for him! Lots of sweet memories in this place. 🖤

Long time, no see!

I made this print back in April to commemorate the second total eclipse we experienced here in Southern Illinois. We’re positioned in a unique spot on the map, as we were in totality for BOTH eclipses (2017 & 2024), giving us the nifty moniker “Crossroads of the Eclipses.” Pretty cool, huh? Prints are available of this piece in 11x14 and 8x10 sizes!

I think this one speaks for itself. 😍😍😍

I can’t wait to participate in my first art fair next weekend! I hope you’ll all come see me at Oak Street Art Fair on Saturday the 27th from 10-5. I’ll have lots of local architecture prints, along with some brand new ones I haven’t shared yet! 👀

I painted this building portrait back in January and just never got around to posting it. I did a pre-order run on Facebook that got no interest, so I’m hoping it will get some love here!

Old Main was the flagship building of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, which was then called Southern Illinois Normal University. Completed in 1887, Old Main first served as the centerpiece of the college, and later housed classrooms, offices, and the university museum.

Many today still remember when Old Main burned down in a spectacular fire in 1969, but here Old Main is memorialized in watercolor and ink.

hi! 👋🏻 This was my last house portrait of 2023: a Christmas gift for my soon to be in-laws! Painting their house was so special to me, and I was so nervous about it being good enough. No need to worry, though—they loved it! Today I got to see it hanging on their wall. 🥰

When I got the reference photos for this house I audibly gasped. Not only is it THE most gorgeous farmhouse, but the yellow trees just screamed “Paint us!”

So how could I not render this one in autumn? 🍂

It gives me the idea to offer which season my clients want their houses painted in. Flowery spring? Green summer? Golden autumn? Winter with Christmas decorations? Could be fun!

Here it is: my favorite house portrait I’ve painted so far. How could I not fall in love with this gorgeous, robin’s egg blue bungalow? You know bungalows are my weak spot.

What I love so much about this portrait is that I feel like I have really settled into my style. Precisely inked lines, bright, vibrant colors, and full, immersive backgrounds. The layering of the foreground fence, the trees, and the home give it a simple sense of depth that I love. I can imagine translating this style into children’s books—a dream I’ve had since childhood.

Anyway, I’m hoping that I can carry this style and quality of work going forward!

Stephanie ordered mini house portrait ornaments for all of her neighbors this year! Um, hello, best neighbor ever award? 🏆

Each of these little portraits has its own unique feel. I enjoyed making them unique to each home and owner—down to the mower lines in the front lawn that this neighbor takes great pride in!

I painted Stephanie’s house at dusk with a bit of glow in the sky. I really like it, and I hope to do more portraits with different seasons and weather. 🖤
