📣ATTENTION DSHS CHOIR STUDENTS:

Next week is a big week! Join us for:

* Choir Room Work Day on Monday, August 4th from 4-6 pm. Help us get the choir room ready for a fantastic 2025-2026 school year!
* On Tuesday, August 5th, a meeting will be held in the choir room for parents and students. Important forms will be handed out, along with choir uniforms for the school year. Attendance is crucial…don’t miss it!

🌟 Texas State Solo & Ensemble Competition! 🌟
The DSHS Choir was represented by 2 ensembles and 5 soloists at TSSEC on Monday, May 26th at Weiss HS. Congratulations to these students for participating in a competition at the start of summer break, post-graduation! We are so proud of your efforts!

Our FINAL 🌟 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 🌟 is Ava Azua! Ava is the Soprano section leader in Chamber Choir, and has been in choir for all four years of high school! After graduating, Ava will attend Boston University to major in psychology and minor in statistics.

What is your funniest choir memory? When Hannah dropped her phone into the river at Mo-Ranch and a guy appeared out of thin air to save it.
What is your favorite choir memory? Making a big bed on every choir trip with Hannah and Kirby!
What is your favorite choir piece from high school? "Trinity Te Deum" by Eriks Esenvalds
What advice would you give other choir kids? Make the most of every opportunity!

Our next 🌟 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 🌟 is Vanessa Owens! Vanessa is a Soprano in Chamber Choir, and has been in choir for all 4 years of high school! After graduating, Vanessa will get a degree in education. 📚

What is your funniest choir memory? When me, Mckinzey, and Katie got attacked by a random five-year old at a restaurant (where were his parents???) we couldn't do anything about it.
What is your favorite choir memory? Mo Ranch for sure. It's such a blast, and you always get to know people a little more. I also liked the cooking competition in Corpus Christi. Our group was a mess and somehow accidentally melted one of our cooking utensils.
What is your favorite choir piece from high school? "Northern Lights" by Ola Gjeilo
What advice would you give other choir kids? Practice at home. If you do it for even just ten minutes it makes a big difference, trust.

What is your funniest choir memory? Being on the bus to Mad Fest and just yapping with my friends.

Our next 🌟 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 🌟 is Megan Aldridge! Megan is an Alto in Chamber Choir, and has been in choir for all 4 years of high school! After graduating, Megan will attend Sam Houston State University, studying Forensic Chemistry.

What is your funniest choir memory? Shenanigans at the mall with Aguilar during TMEA
What is your favorite choir memory? Our very first chamber choir retreat, around the campfire. Someone, I think Kate or Sloane, had brought a guitar, and were playing music as we all roasted marshmallows. It all felt so soft, for lack of a better word. I think about that moment a lot.
What is your favorite choir piece from high school? “Veniki” by Rubtsov
What advice would you give other choir kids? This sounds cheesy, but listen to each other. While singing, as well as when you’re not. Choir is a community—and communities are built on trust and mutual respect. You don’t have to love someone to acknowledge that they are an integral member of the choir, and treat them as such.

What is your funniest choir memory? My sophomore year in treble choir, the first talent show where Katie put on an unscripted play and that was my first impression of everyone in the class.
What is your favorite choir memory? Singing at Hudson’s my freshman year.
What is your favorite choir piece from high school? "Boogie Wonderland" from this year’s Encore!
What advice would you give other choir kids? Actually practice at home, whether it be just listening to the music or humming, anything helps.
