Part 5: The Son of Man by RenƩ Magritte.

Youā€™ve probably seen this man beforeā€¦

Suit.

Bowler hat.

And a giant GREEN APPLE covering his face. šŸ

But why hide his face?

Magritte created this painting as a self-portraitā€¦

and he was fascinated by a simple idea:

We always want to see what is HIDDEN. šŸ‘€

You can see part of his face.

You KNOW thereā€™s more behind the apple.

But you canā€™t see it.

And suddenly your brain desperately wants to move that apple. šŸ˜‚

That feeling is part of the artwork.

Magritte wanted us to think about the things we can seeā€¦

and the things that will always remain hidden.

Now ask your child:

ā€œIf you made a self-portrait but had to hide your face with ONE object, what would you choose?ā€

And thenā€¦

LET THEM DRAW IT. šŸŽØšŸŽ

Because learning about an artist is even better when it becomes an invitation to create.

What happens when you give everything to something you believe inā€¦ but no one sees it?

Iā€™m working hard to make art education accessible to more kids, but sometimes I wonder how long I can keep fighting the algorithm.

I put so much of myself into making art education accessible to more children, but sometimes it feels like my work just isnā€™t reaching the people Iā€™m trying to reach.

And some days, I genuinely wonder how long I can keep giving this much without seeing it go anywhere.

Tell me, what am I doing wrong? ā¬‡ļø

Part 4: The Arnolfini Portrait.

This painting is almost 600 years oldā€¦

but look VERY closely at the tiny mirror behind the couple. šŸŖžšŸ‘€

Inside the reflection, you can see the roomā€¦

the couple from behindā€¦

AND two mysterious people standing in the doorway.

But it gets even better.

Right above the mirror, Jan van Eyck wrote:

ā€œJan van Eyck was here.ā€

Basicallyā€¦

the 1434 version of:

ā€œI WAS HERE.ā€ šŸ˜‚

He turned a tiny mirror into a whole secret scene hiding inside the painting.

Now ask your child:

ā€œIf you could hide ONE tiny secret inside a painting, what would it be?ā€

Because looking at art gets way more fun when kids become art detectives. šŸ”ŽšŸŽØ

Sometimes I wonder how much longer I can keep doing this.

I work really hard to make real art education accessible to more children, especially families who may not have access to art classes or expensive programs.

I create the lessons. I teach. I edit. I plan. I share.

And thenā€¦ the algorithm decides almost no one gets to see it.

I know numbers arenā€™t everything, but when youā€™re trying to build something that you truly believe can make a difference, it gets exhausting to keep creating and feel like youā€™re talking to an empty room.

Iā€™m still here. Still creating. Still trying.

But some days, I really donā€™t know how long I can keep fighting the algorithm just to reach the families I created this for

HOW TO MAKE YOUR CHILD REMEMBER ART HISTORY WITHOUT MEMORIZING DATES šŸ‘€šŸŽØ

Part 3: Whistlerā€™s Mother

Youā€™ve probably seen this painting before.

But hereā€™s something funnyā€¦

ā€œWhistlerā€™s Motherā€ ISNā€™T ACTUALLY ITS NAME. šŸ˜³

James McNeill Whistler gave this portrait of his mother the very serious title:

ā€œArrangement in Grey and Black No. 1.ā€

Yes.

He painted his own MOMā€¦

and named the painting like she was part of the furniture. šŸ˜‚šŸŖ‘

Her name was Anna McNeill Whistler, and she became one of the most recognizable mothers in art history.

Now ask your child:

ā€œIf you painted someone in your family, what would you name the artwork?ā€

Because sometimes, the little stories behind famous paintings are what make kids remember them forever. šŸŽØšŸ‘€
