smArt ARTS is a mentoring program where advanced level artistic teens volunteer their time under the supervision of a teaching artist to provide FREE LESSONS to children in visual arts, music and theater. Helping young people learn critical thinking and self-discovery through community building and creative art projects. The program started as a pilot program in Bensalem, PA in January 2007, where teens volunteered to teach once a month at a YWCA sponsored children’s Saturday camp. In the fall of 2007, Neighborhood Notes (now called smArt) was invited to participate in Bristol Township as part of the federally funded Weed and Seed Initiative and the program continues to grow. We have created 7 murals in the community of Bristol along with a Global Peace Project Mural which is now displayed in Arizona. We continue to run weekly classes, summer workshops and field trips with the children in the Greater Delaware Valley building self-confidence to help them through life. We also run weekly classes in Plumstead Township for children since 2009 and now we are happy to announce a new addition of classes’ right here in our own backyard. We will now be offering weekly classes right in the heart of Doylestown.
