Happy 2020 - we’ve had a long hiatus from communication since the beginning of 2019, and the question we've been understandably getting is, “what’s taking so long?
We founded DeepLight Labs with the vision of creating an art piece of unmatched quality, and have been working every day since to turn that vision into reality. Every element of our project is unusual for its respective industry, and we knew early on that there would be challenges we could not foresee. Some of our most daunting obstacles so far have included understanding the chemistry of mirror reflectivity, having to find a new supplier of aluminum after months of progress, and the details surrounding the precise geometry of a dodecahedron.
Each aspect of the DeepLight has gone through several design iterations and significant trial-and-error testing, which has given us confidence in the quality and longevity of our parts, as well a more complete understanding of our engineering limitations. In order to achieve maximum quality, we must design to the limits of what’s currently possible.
When we shared our last major update in February, we had a roadmap in place to have our units completed and shipped out around Q3 of 2019. As it turns out, the challenges we’ve faced have forced us to reassess our timeline several times. We can proudly say that we have made substantial progress this past year, but our finish line still lies ahead of us.
As with all problems we’ve faced so far, the solution, once you find it, is obvious; getting there is the real challenge. We will be able to commit to a more definitive release schedule once we have completed and shipped Alpha units to our early adopters in the coming season. Thank you to everyone for your continued support ~ more to come soon.
