Today, we celebrate freedom, resilience, culture, and the enduring legacy of Black Americans whose courage and determination helped shape our nation.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day to honor our history, reflect on our journey, and celebrate the strength of our communities.

At the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, we proudly preserve and share the rich heritage of Black cowboys and cowgirls whose contributions to the American West have too often gone untold. Their legacy lives on every time the gates open and riders enter the arena.
