Summer at AU in 10 seconds

Grateful for all the 401 students we had this summer! Our 7 talented teachers pulled off 10 weeks of 38 camps (each with an art show), with 4 interns, 10,000 hours of parking app paid and only a few tickets! I’m guessing around 2000 pieces of artwork went home this summer. Phew 😅 😮‍💨! We’ll start planning for Summer 27 this month! Any requests, let us know!

Y'all my momma/teacher heart is so happy. Stella was my student starting back in 2016 when she was just a kid. She was always a stand out, and had such a sweet, kind spirit. Stella interned for me in high school and I was so sad when she went off to college. BUT, she's back and going to teach clay here now!! How cool is that?!
Here's her bio:

Stella Chegwidden recently graduated from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, receiving a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a focus in metal smithing. Stella has lots of teaching and kid experience! Growing up Stella took classes at Art Underground and lead her to keep pursuing a life in the arts!

We're thrilled to introduce you to Beth, our Thursday evening K2 teacher! My parents have known Beth for many years, and my dad told me 6 months ago, you need to meet Beth, she's a retired art teacher, you're going to love her. I am so excited to have Beth on our team, here's a little about her.

Hello! I'm Beth Collum, and I'm excited to get to share my love of art with young artists.

I graduated from what was then Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. Over the past 38 years, my teaching journey has taken many wonderful turns. I've taught elementary, middle school, and high school art; homeschooled my two sons; worked as a classroom teacher, special education para, substitute teacher, and reading para; and served as a Children's Ministry Director. Every step along the way has strengthened my passion for helping children learn, grow, and discover their unique abilities.

Watercolor is one of my favorite artistic mediums, but I enjoy exploring a wide variety of art techniques and materials. I love helping students experiment, develop new skills, and experience the joy of creating something they're proud of.

Now retired and living in Columbia with my husband, David, I'm delighted to be able to spend more time with our growing family—including our grandchildren—I also enjoy cooking, baking, reading and can't wait to do what I love most: encouraging young artists. My goal is to provide a welcoming, positive environment where every child feels successful, gains confidence, and discovers that creativity is something to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

I look forward to meeting your child and sharing the adventure of creating art together!

Bob Ross Camp 🏕️
I love this camp. It’s like a childhood dream come true. I would watch Bob Ross on tv and want to try everything he was doing. Palette knives, fan brushes, and happy little trees. How fun it is to share this now with the next generation!
One of the dads showed up at the art show dressed as Bob Ross, slide 2 for the teenage daughters’ reaction. 😂
