Music has a long history in these mountains.
Bands would form to celebrate holidays and events. This pic is of a civilian brass band at a bandstand in Sierra City circa 1900.

Downieville Mountain Music is a new event this year being established by two non-profit 501(c)3 groups; Downieville Improvement Group and Sierra County Arts Council. The event plans to expand and celebrate some of our area history and local artists.

This year’s performers are Achilles Wheel Trio and Nina Ge**er & Chris Webster. Achilles Wheel Trio is rooted in the Northern California/Nevada City scene. They have performed several times at the Music At the Mine venue in nearby Sierra City. Nina Ge**er & Chris Webster is a nod to the late Kate Wolf who spent time and performed in Sierra County. Nina Ge**er toured and performed with Kate Wolf from 1978-1986. Kate Wolf’s final resting place is in Goodyears Bar which is just 4 miles outside of Downieville. Chris Webster also has a long history of performing as part of Mumbo Gumbo at the Music At the Mine series in Sierra City.
