Hula O Puanani

"Hula is the heartbeat of Hawai'i” and it continues to beat here in Chicago! Aloha and welcome to In 1989, she started teaching to just one child (keiki).

School director and teacher (Kumu) was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai'i and currently resides in Downers Grove, Illinois. Shasta began to dance hula at the age of five, and continued dancing throughout her teen years with Auntie Lucy Lee and later in her early twenties with Auntie Rose Joshua. It was in her early twenties that she was selected among a small group of Hawai'i's most talented dan

cers to represent Aloha Airlines and traveled all over the world to extend the aloha spirit through Hula. Now, Auntie Shasta continues to share her hula through performing and teaching. Today she continues to teach all ages from keiki, teenagers, young adults to gracious ladies. Even with all of her experience, Shasta takes the initiative to still learn by attending workshops in the Midwest as well as back home in Hawai'i. She is proud to teach what she has learned growing up in Hawai'i and to share the aloha and her passion for hula with her Haumana (students). Through her, the Haumana continue to carry on the beautiful tradition of the Hula!
