We’ve begun working with Liquid Studios this year, and the results have been astounding! The professionalism and accuracy make them our first choice for recording. Brendan B (Iscariot)

Working with Dan from Liquid Studios was by far one of the best recording experiences I’ve had. My band was recording some demos solely for personal use, but Dan still took extra time and care to mix our songs, and they honestly came out much better than anything I’ve recorded before… And costed way less, too. You can tell Dan is a metal guy at heart, as he definitely knows what a metal band should sound like, and the overall mix certainly reflects that. My drums sounded great, as did the vocal and killer tone out of the guitars. To top it off, he’s patient, super easy to work with, AND he even brings his studio to you! If you’re a metal band looking for awesome recording for an awesome price, then I can’t think of anyone better. (Buried December)

Recording with Dan from liquid studios was an easy and fun process. We knew right away we wanted to work with him because of the affordable price of recording, mixing, and mastering, but also his ability to make the music he works on sound so damn good. Also, the fact that he comes to YOU makes everything so much easier. https://soundcloud.com/joey-bazzano
I have been a musician since I was 14 years old. I grew up with music played in my house daily, long parties, weekends etc. I think I've come by the majority of attitudes and personalities that could be pleasant or acquired tastes. That being said Liquid Studios(LS) impressed me first and foremost with business etiquette and attitude. Secondly with approachability, not once did LS make me feel as if I were being a hassle. Third is the final product. LS put out some good remasters of my original recordings. LS brought a breath of fresh air and as LS put it "polished it up so people could see it shine." Working with Dan at liquid studios was a blast! He really took his time and put a lot of effort into every aspect of our recording. This really got us excited because we knew it was going to sound great right away. He was really flexible with scheduling as well and that took a lot of strain off of our hectic lives. It was an honor working with him, and we are happy to call him our friend now. Anthony (NQA)

Working with liquid studios has been awesome. Dan was a pleasure to work with because no matter what he cares about the art you create. He doesn't let anything hold him back to get the best sound out of what you are doing. He sits and slaves over the art you slaved to create. From now on I know where to go when I need that final opinion on how my songs should sound and he's a huge help in the end process . Liquid studios is the place you definitely want to go for price and quality! Contact us today and we can discuss how Liquid Studios can take your song to the next level!!! This is what your raw drums should sound like before you ever touch a plugin.

No EQ.
No compression.
No samples.
No mix tricks.

Just mic selection, placement, and bleed control doing the heavy lifting before the mix even starts.

Because if the raw tracks are already clear, punchy, and controlled…

The mix gets a whole lot easier.

Your raw drum tracks don’t need to be perfect…

But they do need to be usable.

Before you ever touch EQ, compression, or samples, 3 things determine whether your drums are actually going to translate in a mix:

🥁 Mic selection
🎯 Mic placement
🔇 Bleed management

Get those right, and your raw drums can already sound 80% of the way there.

Stop trying to fix bad drum recordings with more plugins.

If the kick sounds like cardboard, the snare is buried in cymbal bleed, and the toms have no definition…

The problem probably happened before you ever opened your DAW.

A great drum mix starts with great raw tracks.

Your drum mixes might not be the problem.

If your kick sounds like a cardboard box, your snare is buried in cymbal bleed, and your toms feel weak no matter how much EQ and compression you throw at them…

The issue probably happened before you ever opened your DAW.

In my new video, I break down exactly how I recorded a real metal drum kit in a less-than-ideal basement and still captured raw tracks that already sounded clear, punchy, and powerful before any mixing.

I walk through:

🥁 The mic choices we used on every piece of the kit
🎯 Placement tips for more attack, tone, and definition
🔇 Simple bleed-control techniques that make mixing way easier
🏚️ How we used room mics to add size, even in a basement
🎧 What properly recorded raw metal drums should actually sound like

Because a great drum mix starts with a great drum recording.

No EQ move, plugin, or mixing trick can fix a wrong bass note.

If the bass is clashing with the guitars, that problem is baked into the recording and it can make the entire mix feel off, even when everything else sounds solid.

Before you start mixing, solo the bass against the guitars and make sure every note is actually where it should be. That 10-minute check can save you hours later.

This is why I tell bands not to track bass with the tone k**b rolled back.

When that high-end information is missing from the DI, you’re also losing pick attack, note definition, and the aggression that helps bass cut through a dense metal mix.

You can always tame a bright DI later. You can’t magically bring back detail that was never recorded.

Huge shoutout to for doing a great job recording all of this and for making my mixes shine!

A compressor can smooth out volume… but it can’t fix a sloppy bass performance.

If your timing is drifting, your attack is inconsistent, or the part just isn’t locked in, that weakness is going to show up in the mix.

Sometimes the real fix isn’t another plugin. It’s another take. 🎸

Your bass might be the reason your metal mix sounds muddy, weak, or disconnected.

And no, it’s not always because you need a better plugin.

In this week’s episode, I’m breaking down 3 bass mistakes that ruin every metal mix... the kind of stuff I see all the time when bands send me self-recorded tracks to mix.

We’re talking about:

⚡ Tracking bass DI’s too dark
⚡ Bass parts that fight the guitars
⚡ Inconsistent playing that compression can’t fix

If your guitars sound huge in solo, your drums hit hard, but the full mix still doesn’t feel locked in… the bass might be the problem.

Watch the full episode now and let me know which of these mistakes you’ve caught yourself making.

This is what mix bus compression is supposed to do.

Same mix.
Same tones.
Same balance.

But once the slow attack / fast release setting kicks in, the whole thing starts to feel more connected.

The kick locks into the guitars.
The snare has more weight.
The mix feels like one powerful recording instead of a pile of stems.

That’s the whole goal.
