We are so excited to share a little piece of Donalsonville history!

The Osceola Hotel and our beautiful hometown of Donalsonville are featured in the September/October issue of Southwest Georgia Living magazine!

The article, “Where History Lives Again,” highlights historic buildings throughout Southwest Georgia that are being brought back to life—and we are incredibly honored that The Osceola is part of that story.

For our family, this feature means more than I can put into words. My parents, Phillip and Teri Hornsby, purchased The Osceola in 1990 with a dream of restoring this beautiful old building and helping breathe new life into downtown Donalsonville. My dad passed away before they were able to see that dream completed, but his vision never went away.

Years later, my son and I, along with some wonderful contractors and craftsmen, picked that dream back up. We have spent countless hours restoring, repairing, scraping away layers of paint, uncovering pieces of history, and doing our best to preserve the character that makes The Osceola so special.

Seeing our hotel, our weddings, our guest rooms, and most importantly Donalsonville featured in these beautiful pages is such a proud and emotional moment for me.

As I shared in the article, “My dad wanted Donalsonville to grow, and he knew it wouldn’t grow without bringing in businesses and fixing up our downtown. I’m just fulfilling my mom and dad’s dream.”

Thank you to Southwest Georgia Living for recognizing the importance of preserving the places that tell the stories of our communities. And thank you to everyone who has encouraged us, stayed with us, celebrated a wedding or special occasion with us, or simply stopped by to tell us how happy you are to see The Osceola alive again.

This isn’t just The Osceola’s story—it’s Donalsonville’s story. ❤️

As I sit here looking through these beautiful photos, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Watching my son marry the love of his life was one of the greatest blessings and proudest moments of my life. Seeing their joy, the love they share, and the incredible support surrounding them made this a day we will never forget.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our amazing family and friends who traveled near and far, prayed for them, celebrated with us, and helped make this day so special. Your love, encouragement, and willingness to lend a hand meant more than words can express.

A huge thank you to every vendor who poured your talent, creativity, and hard work into making this wedding absolutely beautiful. Every detail came together perfectly, and your dedication helped create memories that our family will cherish forever.

Seminole County, Donalsonville, around 1905…A busy view of Second Street shows the heart of Donalsonville’s early commercial district, with brick storefronts and hitching posts lining the unpaved road. Visible from right to left are a dry goods store owned by J. L. Dickenson, a seed store operated by Gene Hardy, the Palace Drugstore, and the Regina Store. Horse-drawn buggies wait at the curb while townspeople gather along the sidewalk, illustrating a time when commerce, conversation, and transportation all met on Main Street. At the far right stands an early street lamp, a sign of modern improvements beginning to reshape small-town Georgia at the turn of the 20th century.
