Good morning everyone! I wanted to follow up on the questions that were asked at last week’s meeting regarding 10-ball rules. I’ve spent the last week researching, reviewing the official BCAPL/BCA rules, and talking with other league operators about how they implement this particular rule — especially in amateur leagues with a lot of newer players.

According to Rule 4-7 in the BCA 10-Ball rules regarding illegally pocketed balls, a ball is considered illegally pocketed if:

a) the called ball is pocketed in any pocket other than the one called, or
b) a ball other than the called ball is pocketed on a shot where the called ball is not legally pocketed.

In 10-ball, if the 10 ball is pocketed early, it is spotted back up while all other legally pocketed balls remain down.

Rule 4-8 is the rule Joe was asking about — “Opponent’s Option” — which states the opponent may either:

a) accept the table as it lies, or
b) require the shooter to shoot again.

After really thinking on this rule, I can absolutely see where it has value for more advanced and higher-level players where intentional safeties, ball control, and strategic play are a larger focus of the game. However, with so many newer players entering league this season who are still learning cue ball control, speed, English, stroke development, and overall table management, I personally feel that enforcing this particular rule right now creates a harsher learning curve than what is beneficial for growth in our league environment.

Essentially, a newer player could accidentally pocket a ball, lose their turn, then potentially be forced to shoot again only to hand ball-in-hand over to a stronger player or stack consecutive fouls toward an automatic loss. While that may align with strict rule enforcement, I want our league environment to remain competitive, educational, and encouraging — not discouraging for players who are still developing confidence and skills.

Because of that, while we WILL continue enforcing the three-foul rule this season, Rule 4-8 (Opponent’s Option) will NOT be enforced for this current summer session. I do plan to implement it beginning next summer so players have time to grow into more advanced rule structures and gameplay strategy.

That being said, I still want everyone familiar with the rule itself. If you travel to play in other leagues or tournaments, please make sure you clarify with that league operator or tournament director which specific rules and rule options they are enforcing for gameplay.

I’ll also be updating schedules and stats today. Thank you all for continuing to grow this league and support one another. 🤍

📣 League Announcement

I know we did our year-end tournament a bit differently this year, and overall I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback about the double elimination format — minus a few outliers.

The biggest concern I keep hearing is the time constraint everyone feels under. And I hear you — I really do. But I’ve also noticed something that needs to be addressed.

The teams expressing the most frustration about timing have been the same ones unwilling to find subs when players can’t make it.

I completely understand wanting to play with your core team — you all came together for a reason. But the reality is, that’s not always possible, and flexibility is part of league play.

So far, only a couple of teams have stepped up, used subs, and kept things moving — while others continue to push the schedule further and further out.

Out of respect for everyone in this league — not just a select few — we’re tightening this up:

👉 If a match is scheduled, it will be played on that date.
👉 If two players absolutely cannot make it, and proper notice is given, a reschedule can be discussed.
👉 If it’s one player, a sub must be found in accordance with end-of-year tournament subbing guidelines.

We all want this to run smoothly and finish strong, and that only works if everyone does their part.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out. Thanks for your cooperation.

🎱 Beaverhead County BCAPL Tournament Update 🎱

Good evening players!

I sent a picture of the tournament bracket in our group text earlier, but I’m posting it here as well for reference.

Tournament play will begin Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 7:00 PM.

Please remember when finding a substitute for tournament play, a higher Fargo rated player cannot sub in for a lower Fargo rated player. If you have any questions about substitutions, please reach out. I would hate for someone to use a sub that isn’t allowed and have their matches not counted.

Here is a breakdown of league funds:

• 24 full-time players
• Total dues collected: $3,360 (minus one player who still needs to pay)

A reminder that league payouts will be withheld for the entire team if your team’s dues are not paid, including the bar sponsorship each team is responsible for.

Bar Sponsorships
• 6 teams × $150 = $900 added

League Allocations
• $100 remains in the checking account to keep it open and avoid low balance fees
• $170 set aside for the Top Shooter Jacket – Congratulations Randy Szerencse! Great shooting, my friend!

Individual Ball Count Payouts
• $1,222 total
• These will be ready for pickup on March 19th

🏆 Final Tournament Payouts
🥇 1st Place — $1,329
🥈 2nd Place — $797
🥉 3rd Place — $532

Handicaps based on average ball count will be applied to tournament points. These handicaps are calculated from league play and will be used for the entire tournament.

Your handicap will NOT change during the tournament, even if your performance varies from match to match.

I have attached the official handicap list for each player that will be used for the remainder of our league session during tournament play.

Please review the list so you know your number going into the tournament.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Good luck to everyone, and I’m looking forward to a great tournament!

📣 League Update – Scoring Procedures, Dues & Upcoming Events

Howdy howdy everyone!

We’ve had ongoing issues over the past few weeks regarding scoring — from concerns about the app to discrepancies with paper sheets. Some of these concerns have been brought up weeks after matches were played.

I want to remind everyone:

👉 Scores can only be adjusted within TWO WEEKS. After that, they are final.

Paper score sheets are the official record. I go off the individual scores written in each box — the system handles the math. I do not rely on anyone’s personal calculations.

🚨 New Scoring Procedure (Effective Immediately)

To eliminate confusion moving forward:
• ALL teams MUST use a paper score sheet
• There will NOT be just one person scoring
• The TWO players in each match will:
• Go to the central score sheet immediately after their match
• Record their own scores
• Agree on the scores BEFORE:
• The next match begins
• OR any balls are moved/racked
• Score sheets must be:
• ✅ Signed by team captains
• 📸 Photographed and sent to me

I will then enter scores into the league system.

💰 League Dues Reminder

The second half of league dues is now overdue.
• If you have not made arrangements with me, you need to do so immediately to remain in compliance with league policies.
• Any player who has not:
• Paid the $140 league dues
• Paid BCA sanctioning fees for 2025 & 2026
• Covered all sub fees

👉 Will NOT receive any payouts until all balances are brought current for your TEAM.

🏁 What’s Coming Up
• 2 weeks remaining of league play
• Followed by: Crawshaw Tournament
• Then: Final League Tournament

👉 Final tournament format:
• Double elimination (team format)
• Handicapped by average ball count (same as league)
• ⚠️ Handicap will NOT change during the tournament

Example:
If you enter as a 9, you stay a 9 — regardless of performance.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me individually.

Thank you all for your cooperation — let’s tighten things up and finish strong 💪🎱
