I’m so honored to have had more than a couple of opportunities to work with Kenny Malone. My greatest musical memory working with him is him ditching the sticks and brushes mid tune and using just his hands. Whatever the extra magic was caught me completely by the throat mid song and made me cry. Such a tender and passionate player!! He loved telling younger people that he was “older than plastic.” That will forever make me laugh. You are indeed missed, Kenny! Thanks for all the grooves.
Kenny Malone, whose drumming prowess is heard on Dolly Parton's "Jolene", died five years ago today (August 26) at age 83.
