SW Art Gallery and Science Center would like to invite you to a garden party, Wednesday, June 24, 9am-11am.

This will be the launch of the gardening club, โ€œArtists in the Gardenโ€, led by Master Gardener, Sara Williams.

Bring your gardening gloves & favorite garden tool and bottle of water. We will spend a couple of hours creating community alongside those who love flower gardens as we work side by side to beautify the flowers already planted at the SW Art Gallery & Science Center.

Walk into Kelsey Jacobson's section of the gallery and you'll stop twice.

Once for the bold, vivid wildlife pieces โ€” bison, wolves, and western landscapes painted in rich color that practically jumps off the canvas. And again for the large-scale mixed media works that layer historical documents, headlines, and maps beneath painted horses in a way that's impossible to look away from.

Two completely different styles. One artist. All of it rooted in the same place โ€” her family's cattle ranch in Independence, ND and her Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara heritage.

Kelsey studied art at NDSU and now serves as gallery curator at the MHA Nation Interpretive Center in Newtown, where she works to preserve and share the stories, traditions, and legacies of her people. Her art is an extension of that same work.

Her collection is part of Women Artists of Western Plains, on display through June 12th. Come see both sides of her work in person โ€” it's worth the visit. ๐ŸŽจ

There's something about this painting that just stops you in your tracks. A little girl, boots off, sitting on a rock overlooking the Badlands โ€” taking it all in like she owns every inch of it.

That's exactly the spirit Daphne Clark captures in her work.

Raised in rural North Dakota near the Montana border, Daphne spent her childhood on her grandparents' ranch โ€” chasing cattle, milking cows, building fence. That life never left her canvas. She earned her Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in 2018 and now paints from her alpaca ranch near Williston, preserving the stories of working ranch life through oil on canvas.

You may also recognize her work from the pages of Prairie Princess โ€” the children's book written by Jessie Veeder and illustrated by Daphne. Every painting in that series started exactly where her art always does: in real life, on real land.

Her work is on display now as part of Women Artists of Western Plains โ€” but only through June 12th. Come see it in person before it's gone. ๐Ÿค

That dandelion you just blew on? It's a highly engineered flying machine. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

Each dandelion can produce up to 20,000 seeds โ€” and those little feathery parachutes can travel up to 5 miles on the wind. Scientists discovered they generate a unique ring of air behind each seed as it floats, making them one of nature's most efficient flyers.

And here's the really wild part โ€” dandelion seeds actually read the weather. In humid or rainy conditions their bristles close up to stay put. In dry, windy conditions they open wide to catch the breeze. They know when to fly. ๐ŸŒฟ

Next time you make a wish, you're launching some seriously smart science. ๐ŸŒผ

Have you spotted dandelions around Dickinson lately? Drop a photo in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The entry deadline for From Frontier to Future: America at 250 Art Exhibition has officially been extended to June 12 โ€” and we would truly love for you to participate.

You do not need to create something new for this exhibition, and your artwork does not need to be for sale. We simply hope youโ€™ll consider sharing your work and your creative voice with our community.

Weโ€™re bringing together artists of all ages and mediums to explore freedom, identity, heritage, and community through art. Whether your work is painted, sculpted, stitched, photographed, built, or imagined โ€” your voice matters here.

Weโ€™ve also been working with regional leaders and local supporters to sponsor over 25 art award ribbons and help make this exhibition something truly special for our region.

Please encourage fellow artists, friends, students, and creators to participate. The more voices represented, the richer the story we can tell together.

Questions are always welcome. We would be honored to include your work. โค๏ธ
