🤯 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 🤯

Western North Dakota mosquitoes have been out of control lately — but nature sent backup. 🦟

Meet the dragonfly. These ancient aerial assassins have a 95% hunting success rate. Lions? 25%. Great white sharks? 50%. It's not even a competition.

And here's the really wild part — they spend most of their life completely underwater as nymphs, some up to five years, before emerging to live just a few weeks as the incredible fliers we see hovering over our ponds and wetlands.

All that time underwater. Just preparing for a few weeks of being the greatest hunter on earth. 🌾

🤯 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 🤯

Schools are back in session across western North Dakota — and that bell? Pure science. 🔔

Electricity flows through a coil and becomes an electromagnet. The magnet pulls a striker arm toward the bell, makes it ring — then the movement breaks the connection, switching the magnet off. The arm springs back, reconnects, and fires again in a fraction of a second.

Electricity → Magnetism → Movement → Sound. That same principle powers motors, speakers, and generators all over the world.

🤯 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 🤯

If you've been swatting flies all summer and missing every single time — it's not you. 🪰

Flies process movement up to 5 times faster than humans. What feels like a quick swat to you is basically slow motion to them. By the time your hand is halfway there they've already calculated an escape route and left.

And here's the really wild part — their eyes give them almost 360 degree vision. They can see you coming from nearly every direction at once.

You never had a chance. 😅

🤯 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 🤯

North Dakota is the #1 honey-producing state in the country. 🍯🐝

And it's not even close! In 2025, North Dakota produced almost THREE TIMES as much honey as the next highest-producing state. 🤯

Our wide-open prairies filled with clover, alfalfa, sunflowers, canola, and wildflowers give honeybees plenty to work with — and they definitely get to work!

A single worker bee produces only about 0.8 grams of honey in her entire lifetime. That's less than a gram from one bee.

Now think about that compared to the tens of millions of pounds of honey produced in North Dakota each year.

That's an incredible amount of work from an incredible number of very busy bees. 🐝

And all those fields of sunflowers and clover you drive past around North Dakota? They're part of what makes our state such a great place for honey production.

Pretty sweet science. 🍯

🤯 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 🤯

Ever notice that every sunflower in a field faces the same direction? That's not a coincidence. 🌻

Young sunflowers actually track the sun — moving east to west throughout the day, then resetting overnight. It's called heliotropism. Drive past a field in the morning and they're facing you. Drive past in the evening and you're looking at a sea of green backs.

And here's the really wild part — once they mature they stop moving and lock facing east permanently. Why east? To warm up faster in the morning and attract more pollinators before other flowers do.

North Dakota is one of the top sunflower producing states in the country. These fields aren't just beautiful — they're doing serious science. 🌾

Please remember to admire these beautiful fields from the road — these are working farms and crops. Always get permission from the farmer before entering any field. 🚜
