Congratulations to Academy violinist Joel Kim on winning 1st Place in the MTAC VOCE Senior Strings Division!

MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) VOCE is a prestigious statewide competition for vocal, instrumental, and chamber music students. After advancing through a rigorous regional selection process, Joel earned his place at the State Finals — where top regional winners across California compete for the highest honors.

As a State Finals winner, Joel will perform at the Annual MTAC Convention Winners Recital this June, showcasing his talent on a statewide stage.

Belated Birthday Bash 🎉

Every March, we celebrate the Baroque masters with March birthdays like Bach, Vivaldi, and Telemann. This year, we’re expanding the party to include another March birthday master, Haydn, for a little Classical flair.

We are excited to present Bach’s Oboe Concerto in F, Brandenburg Concerto, Telemann Trio Sonata, and Haydn’s Cello Concerto, along with a set of lighthearted chamber works to open the program.

Come celebrate with us on Wednesday, April 1st for an overdue birthday celebration!

Congratulations to Academy Cellist, Ray Gu on winning the Grand Prize at the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition!

Since 1985, this competition has awarded over $700,000 to exceptional young musicians across Los Angeles County. Open to string, woodwind, and brass players ages 14–19, it represents one of the highest honors in youth classical music in Southern California. Judged by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Ray walked away with the Grand Prize as the youngest finalist in this year’s competition at just 15 years old.

A student of world-renowned cellist Clive Greensmith, Ray attends the Colburn Music Academy, one of the most celebrated pre-college music programs in the country, alongside DBHS.

Congratulations to Academy oboist Stephanie Zhou for being selected to join the prestigious NYO2! NYO2 is a free orchestra program that comes together each summer alongside the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) for intensive training and performance opportunities. This summer’s program begins with a two-week residency culminating in a Carnegie Hall performance in July. Following the performance, NYO2 will travel to the Dominican Republic for a five-day residency featuring two concerts and peer exchange activities with local young musicians.
