Meet David Roden who will be starring as Boris!
What is your favorite play? Waitress and Cabaret
What is a fun fact about yourself? IA fun fact about me is that I’m a huge music enthusiast. I take a lot of pride in my music taste and love introducing people to new songs, especially when I can find tracks that reflect situations or emotions they might relate to. I find music incredibly therapeutic and often spend time analyzing lyrics, appreciating the artistry and meaning behind them. When a song is written well, I think there’s something truly beautiful about the way it can capture complex feelings and experiences in just a few words.
What inspired you to go into acting? I’ve been acting for as long as I can remember, and it has always brought me so much joy. I started at a small community theatre in my hometown at a very young age, and from the moment I stepped on stage, I was fascinated by the experience. Performing, storytelling, and connecting with an audience quickly became something I loved. Music has also always been a huge part of my life, and growing up surrounded by it naturally drew me toward theatre and performance.
How does your character’s journey relate to your own life? Boris is conflicted between following the orders of a higher power in the name of safety and security while also trying to remain human. This tension between wanting what is best for himself and seeking the value of genuine human connection is something I relate to. He struggles to reconcile what he is told is wrong with what he genuinely believes, and he feels compelled to remain silent in order to stay separate and protected. I think this idea can be applied to many people's lives beyond the context of the story, as these conflicts and questions are universal.
What do you hope the audience will take away from this show? I hope the audience takes away a deeper understanding of themselves and the people around them. Art is powerful because it creates a space for reflection, empathy, and conversation in a way that few other things can. Live theatre, in particular, is one of the most immediate and creative forms of expression, bringing people together in the same place and moment to share an experience. As both audiences and members of a community, we are given the opportunity to reflect on our beliefs, challenge our perspectives, and consider new ways of thinking. I believe art has the power to inspire positive change by encouraging us to connect with one another, ask difficult questions, and imagine a better future.
