~The big picture is just an accumulation of all the small things we put together to make it~

Yet another example of hunting good puddles paying off. I go by this spot all the time while teaching my classes, yet only once have I seen one in this spot. It’s at the perfect depth point to capture in whole the GM building while also getting just the right amount of street scape in the foreground of the frame.

Just a crispy reflection shot on a rainy day of a nice mural downtown that I captured during one of my classes from this Spring. I finally had a puddle pop up in just the right spot to make this shot possible!

Puddles will forever be a great photography tool. Getting a puddle to pop up in just the right spot on a still day creates opportunities for some great street photography! Nothing like a unique perspective to capitalize a great street scene. One of the many tricks I teach people in my photography classes.

~Urban canyon floors, where Motown engines roar~

Long exposure photography gives an infinite amount of end results. Sometimes, you’re able to get a perfect result, producing an image that you couldn’t try to beat. This one falls into that category for me. Buses leave fantastic light streaks, and getting a perfect one at the base of the Guardian building was the feather in my cap when it comes to night photography in Downtown Detroit!

~Glowing beacons of the night, ensuring the city stays bright~

The night time streets of Detroit are always nice and lit up. It makes the city feel plenty alive in the evenings and presents for very lively night photography.

We’re lucky to have such historic buildings predominant and vibrant here. It’s always fun taking my camera to the streets in the evening to showcase what our city visually has to offer.
