We believe in the transformative power of art to enliven and build community, to strengthen and amplify individual voices and to foster socio-political justice. By housing multiple artists and projects in a Detroit neighborhood with deep historical and cultural roots, Light Box supports cross-pollination and collaboration, nurturing artistic experimentation & cultural expression by and among diverse communities. The space offers residencies, public showings, workshops, and social forums; incubating and presenting artistic work and programs that challenge, illuminate, and inspire.

Dear Light Box Community, After nearly seven years, full of many beautiful and courageous acts of your/our creative expression, we are letting you know with some sadness that we will be closing Light Box. Furthermore, we are asking for your help to sell the building. 8641 Linwood is an amazing space...

Look what just got a new forever home at Light Box! ❤️
Big thanks to all who contributed to making this happen in a matter of mere days (really, a few hours, today) -- including quick email relaying (Cara Graninger), FaceTime inspecting (Michael Malis), deep discount offering, and angels wings on which to deliver it, from the beautiful campus formerly known as Marygrove College, but which will house a new DPS high school in the not too distant future....
