A new chapter is unfolding at Brewster-Wheeler.

Once slated for demolition, the historic recreation center is being restored as the heart of a growing Detroit community KRONK and Grind Time Wrestling Academy are already bringing new energy to the building, while work continues on the basketball gym.

Surrounding the recreation center, 211 new affordable apartments are beginning to rise—including 53 homes scheduled to open in January 2027.

Four brand-new affordable housing communities will soon surround the historic Brewster Wheeler Recreation Center — a place that once served as the heart of the neighborhood and will now be surrounded by a new community of its own.

And don't forget: KRONK Boxing is now open and fully operating inside the recreation center while construction continues around it, offering gated parking for gym members on the side of the building.
