313 Day is all about honoring the history, the legends, and the culture that made Detroit what it is.
Today I wanted to share footage from my personal archives a historic moment in Detroit Hip Hop of Proof and Bugz Unsigned Hype Live event on October 17, 1998 at Shantinique Music.
Before the world caught on, Detroit already had legends in the making. Proof later received national recognition through The Source’s Unsigned Hype in 1999, but to us, he already represented greatness. And Bugz was right there too — bringing his own presence, talent, and energy to a movement that helped define an era.
Sadly, both of these brothers are no longer with us , but their impact still lives on through the music, the energy, and the blueprint they left behind. Their legacy is permanent.
Their names still ring out in Detroit.
Their influence still lives in the culture.
Their contribution to hip hop will never be forgotten.
This is more than a post.
This is more than a memory.
This is Detroit history.
Today is a historic day to reflect, remember, and give flowers to the ones who helped build Detroit’s hip hop legacy.
Rest in power to Proof and Bugz.
