General information
Sacred Harp Detroit is in its fourth year. We gather together on the fourth Sunday of each month (most months – there are a few exceptions – please check the Events tab) to sing American traditional music from The Sacred Harp. This four-part a ca****la (i.e. without musical instruments) music is characterized by haunting harmonies, traditional modes, raucous songs, serene hymns, fast fugues, and high-energy anthems. The Sacred Harp tradition is open to all. Shape note music is designed to be easy to learn for those with no prior musical background. All voices are welcome, all levels of experience are welcome. Newcomers and beginners are especially welcome.
