The 2026 Jazz Goes to College scholarship, co-sponsored by the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation and I.A.T.S.E. Local 38,💰awards $2,500 to undergrads studying theatrical stagecraft and music technologies.

Calling all high school musicians! The Marine Band’s 2027 Concerto Competition for High School Musicians is officially open for applications. The winner will appear as a guest soloist with the Marine Band during the 2027 Spring concert season and receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

This competition is open to high school musicians (grades 9-12) enrolled during the 2026-2027 academic year. Woodwind, brass and percussion players are eligible to apply.

“The nature of the pieces we'll be playing together speaks to what we can celebrate. The influences from jazz, which is so deeply rooted in African-American history, combine with the classical form and ensemble to create a musical melting pot that brings together different cultural influences in a beautiful way. I think it'll be quite special, and I hope that audience members will be inspired by it.”

Josh McClendon (IAC 10-15, IAA 15-18) joins Interlochen Arts Academy students and members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for Imagine US: America at 250 on March 10 in Detroit. Read more about Josh's musical journey, and plan to be there for this special performance!
