"They Created It" - Commissioned by Plowshares Theatre Company through the support of the Kresge Foundation.
Sporting a book and score written by local artists John Sloan III and Kris Johnson. Hastings Street follows the Carson Family as they fight for the neighborhood they love while navigating being uprooted on a personal and community-wide basis. This original musical is a joyous celebration of Detroit and its people.

Black Bottom was home to many people who made a difference both locally and nationally. Political leaders, entertainers, and business leaders grew up in this thriving, all-Black neighborhood. They charted a course in life where the people and experiences of Black Bottom helped to shape who they became.

A list of some of these impressive individuals would include educator Zeline Richard, Nobel Prize winner Ralph C. Bunche, Actress & Singer Della Reese, Michigan's 1st Black U.S. Congressman Charles Diggs, Jr., and of course, Detroit's 1st Black Mayor Coleman A. Young. Each one of these movers and shakers built a life committed to fighting for justice and lifting up others to achieve their dreams.
