Winston will present a series of freestanding sculptures that continue his natural progression of sport as a medium. The freestanding works are built upon foundations of rubber tires, water coolers, baseball bases and cement, a nod to both the Motor City and to childhood memories of playing sports in the yard. Skewers emerge out of portals and treasure boxes of yesteryear.

Winston’s β€˜Sheepskins’ reference Christopher Wool’s iconic text paintings of the late 1980s, engaging standardized letters as both visual and semantic elements. Winston treats text as formal shapes in their own right, balancing communicative clarity with graphic composition and underscoring the interplay between language and visual form.
