I'm sad to announce that Blue Field Writers House is closing down. The house will be sold in January, so I am packing up and moving out. Thank you to everyone who liked this page, supported BFWH, or sent in an application. It was very much appreciated. Please continue to support Detroit and writers everywhere.

Hey look! It's Day 8 of the finalist showcase, and we get to celebrate JAQUIRA DIAZ. A fiction writer born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami Beach, her story "Section 8" was published in The Southern Review and was a winner of The Pushcart Prize.

Beach men’s rooms, before the Section 8 projects were dismantled and we were all forced out, I did my last stint in juvie. I was sixteen, and I went in pretending I owned the place, bragging to all the younger girls that it wasn’t my first time."

Annoucing the Detroit Pulse Theatre Outdoor Reading Series! Expanding upon our already successful Playwrights Group, we want to open up our play readings to the public so everyone can see the great work being written right here in Detroit.

What: A public reading of a brand-new full-length play written by Brian Cox.

When: Friday, September 11th at 7 pm.

Where: The park across from Woodbridge Pub (the intersection of Trumbull and Merrick in Detroit)

What to Bring: Something to sit on (lawn chair, blanket) and all your friends.
