Detroit’s rooftop bar scene is getting another addition this week, this time in the heart of Brush Park.

T**a, a new Mediterranean-inspired rooftop cocktail bar atop the AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle, opens Thursday at 10 Eliot St. with skyline views, coastal-style cocktails and a menu built around shareable small plates.

The new 225-seat spot on the hotel’s 11th floor is designed to bring a laid-back California coastal vibe to one of Detroit’s fastest-growing neighborhoods, according to a news release. The concept leans heavily into social dining and drinks, with a cocktail menu inspired by Mediterranean and coastal flavors, and a food program centered on small plates and grilled entrees.

Among the signature drinks are the Kalimotxo, a Basque-style red wine and cola spritz; the Cyprus, made with mezcal, cocchi rosa and raspberry; and the Coastside, a mix of white wine, rum, peach and citrus honey. The bar will also feature an after-dinner cocktail program anchored by the T**a Carajillo, made with dark rum, espresso and cherry chocolate whip.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is moving forward with a new vision for the Interstate 375 Boulevard Project in downtown Detroit.

At a community meeting this week, MDOT officials and other project partners presented themes they plan to address across 8 acres of land that will be made available as part of the project to replace I-375 with a street-level boulevard.

The 8 acres in question — about the size of six football fields — would be created by filling in the sunken highway during the first phase of a new three-phase approach to the project.

Upon completion of the project, MDOT would own the land and go through a process of determining how to dispose of it, Jon Loree, a senior project manager with MDOT, told Crain’s.

He expects a draft land-use plan for the site to be completed this fall. Construction would not begin until after the 2027 Detroit Grand Prix, which is scheduled for the first weekend in June.

Current estimates show that boulevard construction would take up to two years. That work would include reconstruction of the Gratiot Avenue bridge over the Dequindre Cut.
