“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

Leonard Cohen spent his life exploring the space between love and loss, faith and doubt, longing and surrender. On October 17, Ballets Jazz Montréal brings those same questions to the stage in Dance Me, a tribute to Cohen’s music and poetry told through movement.

Set to the songs that made Cohen one of the most distinctive voices of his generation, Dance Me finds new ways to inhabit the stories he left behind.

Detroit Opera Resident Artists Madison Montambault, Grace Ryan, Travis Leon Williams, and Aurélien Mangwa gave us a musical introduction to the drama, passion, and intrigue of Puccini’s Tosca, led by Nathalie Doucet, Head of Music & Director of the Detroit Opera Resident Artist Program.

Special thanks to Detroit Opera’s Leah Hill, Director of Marketing, and Eliza Beutler, Program Administrator, and to our friends at Periodicals for helping us bring opera out into the city.

Through Detroit Resident Rush, City of Detroit residents can purchase up to two $25 tickets to Detroit StoryFest: Villains, happening Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 PM.

Stop by the Detroit Opera House box office during the week of the performance and show a valid government-issued ID with your Detroit address. Tickets are subject to availability, with best available seating assigned at purchase.

Detroit Opera is holding auditions for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, & Baritone/Bass voices for Fiddler on the Roof (Stein) and Satyagraha (Glass).

Auditions will be held at the Detroit Opera House, 1526 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226 on November 6 & 7, 2026.

AUDITION DETAILS:
One aria in English
One aria in a different language of your choosing.

Please note:

Music must be memorized
Operatic repertoire is preferred, but standard oratorio selections will be accepted.
Singers are required to bring their own music in the correct key.
Detroit Opera will provide an accompanist.
All applicants must be over 18 years of age.
