Detroit Techno Militia Welcomes Augustus Williams
Detroit, MI — Detroit Techno Militia is proud to welcome Augustus Williams, aka Gusto, to the DTM roster. A Detroit-based electronic artist, Metroplex recording artist, DJ, educator, and live hardware performer, Augustus brings more than two decades of experience in Detroit’s underground electronic music community.
Augustus has built his sound around the relationship between the DJ, the machines, and the dance floor. Using drum machines, synthesizers, sequencers, and live hardware, his sets blur the line between DJing and live performance. Rather than relying on fixed arrangements, he builds and reshapes the music in real time, with an emphasis on atmosphere, tension, and storytelling.
That versatility allows Augustus to perform in several formats, from vinyl and digital DJ sets to hybrid DJ and hardware performances and full live sets. Whatever the setup, the focus remains the same: read the room, work the machines, and keep the music moving.
Augustus has been an active part of Detroit’s scene for years, with appearances at Movement Festival in 2022, 2024, and 2025, the Metroplex Showcase, Tec-Troit, Space and Time, and the Berlin-Detroit Connection. He has also played many of the city’s key underground venues, including TV Lounge, Marble Bar, SPKRBOX, Lincoln Factory, and The Works.
As a Metroplex recording artist, Augustus carries a direct connection to one of Detroit techno’s foundational labels. His work with Metroplex, Detroit Techno Militia, and Techno Snob reflects a career built around music, community, and a genuine respect for Detroit’s electronic music legacy. He also works as an educator, sharing his knowledge of hardware-based electronic music and helping keep that tradition moving forward.
