Kyra Harris Bolden made history as the first Black woman to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court. At 34 years old, she marked a significant milestone in the state’s legal history. Appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Bolden brought a fresh perspective shaped by her background as a working mother and civil rights advocate. Her appointment provides inspiration to future generations, especially young Black girls, showing them that leadership in law is within reach. Before joining the Michigan Supreme Court, Bolden served in the Michigan House of Representatives and worked in civil litigation after clerking for Judge John A. Murphy. Bolden’s appointment is helping ensure diverse voices are represented on Michigan’s highest court.

Isaiah Hand, a 20-year-old aerospace engineering student from Florida, earned his wings through Tuskegee’s relaunched aviation program — training at the same Moton Field where the legendary Tuskegee Airmen once made history.⁠
