Ballet Folklorico Moyocoyani Izel " You don't stop dancing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop dancing." The second part of our name "IZEL" is a Nahuatl word meaning unique.

Our Name - Moyocoyani Izel comes from the native Aztec tongue: Nahuatl. “MOYOCOYANI” was a nickname given to the Aztec God, Tezcatlipoca; and means one who invented/created himself. Together we decided that one who created himself unique is a great representation of who we are and to honor our past as well as our future by adopting Moyocoyani Izel as the name of our group.

✨Join us for our annual end-of-year showcase where we culminate our academic year with a celebratory event. This showcase will highlight accomplishments of the group, such as our graduates, as well as showcase the regions that we have learned this year.

❤️‍🔥This year’s theme is “De México al Corazón de Detroit,” which translates to From Mexico to the Heart of Detroit. This title is very fitting because we are bringing dances and live folk traditions from Mexico to the Heart of Detroit which is here at Wayne State and in Midtown.

🪗We will be performing live with our special guests, Grupo Autónomo. Raised in Southwest Detroit & rooted in Mexico, Grupo Autónomo will complete our vision in bringing the love we have for our culture from Mexico to the Heart of Detroit.

🕰️ Doors open at 6:30PM | Show begins at 7:00PM.
