WILL BE ANNOUNCED JUNE 2012!

'DEAR JOURNAL' is a new musical centering around 4 teenagers entering Middle School. Realizing that Middle School isn't just about what it appears to be, they scramble to fit in and lose track of what's really important. Now, they must make a choice between the Friends they always wanted-or the Friends they've always had.
'DEAR JOURNAL' touches, moves and inspires everyone that sees it. The special thing about 'DEAR JOURNAL' is that it is the foundation of a friendship. Eric Gelb, a gay teen and Ryan Hurley, a straight opera singer, put their rocky past aside to produce and direct an original musical chronicling the many things that happen in middle school. You would think that an adult helped us. Together, we have performed 5 shows at 4 different venues across Michigan. We designed, purchased and assembled everything ourselves. Working around a tight budget, we have produced a show we are so proud of with a message even stronger than anything else out there. However, we are probably the first teens to do that. Almost no middle schools have any arts funding left - I know ours doesn't. That's why we set out to do this production, and that's why all the money to produce our show came out of our pockets, even turning to our castmembers for financial help. We hope, aside from walking away with a great message, the people the come to see our show will be inspired to make a change in their school's arts program and start programs like we did. Audiences love 'DEAR JOURNAL'! "A VERY INTERESTING STORY OF HOW TEENS BECAME COMFORTABLE WITH THEMSELVES IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, DEMONSTRATED VERY NICELY IN DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES, COMING TOGETHER EQUALING A WONDERFUL TALE ABOUT PEER PRESSURE, BULLYING AND CLIQUES." "ONE WORD...AMAZING!"

"GOOD STORY, COMEDY AND ACTING-ANYONE CAN RELATE AND HAVE A GOOD LAUGH!"

"HILARIOUS AND FUN!"

"HIGH ENERGY...TERRIFIC!"

"POIGNANT WITH A POWERFUL MESSAGE." "GELB'S PERFORMANCE IS PRECIOUS." VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO EVERYONE AT Classic Photography MI. http://www.classicphotography.info/index2.php

Facts:
-Eric has over 6 quick changes in the show, most of which happen by the aide of Noura, Velcro and 20 seconds.
-All 4 journals have the full scene of dialogue hand written inside them.
-The brochures in Mr. Quincy's clipboard are from London.
-Brenton's original name was Justin.
-There are around 30 costumes in the show.
-I (Do Not) Love You was the first song written in the show.
-During previews, Brenton's "cupcake" was real. After baking and icing them, they were frozen for two days before being used in the show. The effect looked real but in reality the performer only had had to brush of frozen frosting bits off his face.
-Mr. Quincy's hairspray he uses on stage is real.
-The Quincy cardboard cut out was cut after previews because of its size.
-There were two large set pieces, a vending machine and a bench that were never used for the show - they were cut in rehearsals.
-The show is set in NY.
-Ricky's spray paint can is an actual can painted blue (in reality, the can sprayed black paint.)
-All characters have an Understudy.

The "Dear Journal" cast are a group of close knit friends. Although sometimes the strenuous work of being a performer pushes us apart, we're always there for each other. Do you have a "family" like that?
