Thinking about the day I was standing between train platforms and decided to go to Copenhagen instead of starting on my planned itinerary through Sweden last summer, booking a place to stay while on a train to the city center, trading thinking for doing. I wandered endlessly, eating all the smørrebrød I could at the Torvehallen and winding through little trails full of songbirds in Christiania. It felt like a love letter to myself.

My sweet Saatchi. I’ll miss your little toes clicking on the old wood of our home while you dance in waiting for food. The way you howled at sirens and sung like a trumpet every time came home from work. The way you would perch as high as you could on the couch and the way your feet would flutter in your sleep. The way literally nothing mattered to you the way cheese did (I respect this). The way your long lashes moved when you blinked your sleepy blinks. You were the funniest, most gentle little friend.

This is the kind of grief that plants a seed in your throat and grows its roots into all the empty spaces left behind in your absence. I don’t know what to do with it. I miss you so much already and am so grateful to have had the honor of loving you for the last 12 years.

Until whatever we become can be near each other again, I will be missing you. Thank you for your boundless love. Rest well little cloud pouf. ☁️🦙🤍
