City of Baltimore Inner Harbor

The boat is called The Baltimore. It was docked in the inner harbor in Baltimore. It's not a shiny new boat; rather, it's old and a little tired, and that's what caught my eye. It spoke to me, saying, "I have a lot of history here".

Bridal Bouquet

I would love that! I am self-taught and loved art from a young age. My great-grandmother was an artist, and my grandmother was an artist who had sold paintings and been featured in her local newspaper before her passing. My daughter is also an artist, and she did take some classes in high school. I guess painting and creating are in our blood. After my children grew up, I began exploring art again, about 3 years ago. I found that I loved to paint flowers I found in my garden. I use acrylic paints mostly, but have been dabbling in watercolor recently. I have painted lilacs, violets, water lilies, Ge**er daisies, sunflowers, and this particular painting was a request from a friend to paint her mother's bridal bouquet as a birthday gift to her.

I believe the original photo was taken at the Detroit Zoo.

I saw the photo of these two giraffes when the story about the death of the baby giraffe was posted online. I read that she needed to be euthanized due to a neck injury that happened at the zoo. I felt compelled to paint them. I added the background flora and fauna because the original photo was taken in the zoo's enclosure.

Before I completed the painting, it was purchased by a woman who told me she had lost a child of her own.

"Rusting Relic"

This one is for my new home of Detroit... A painting of the abandoned Packard Plant.
Gouache and acrylic marker on canvas board with a constructed wire hanging (makes sense that it's hand-fashioned wire for a factory dealing with metal)
Started with a paper "underpainting" - a collage of papers showing rust and metal decay. *Then I used some patchy blue Gouache for the sky and acrylic markers for my outlines (black and white with a little purple in the dark shadows).
All of the other colors that are shown (reds and browns) are from the paper underneath. Even the clouds are rusty.

The Detroit River area is being renovated. The Renaissance Center was a big thing many years ago. Now it will be torn down. There will be a new waterfront building coming.

The windows in the middle building have bars in them to symbolize that Motown was built by the auto industry

This painting is inspired by Adam and Eve in the bible. It represents the temptation within love or a relationship and how it may not always be perfect. The bright red apple symbolizes perfection and temptation, while the black snake wrapped around it represents the negative aspect of a tempting love or relationship.
