Here is a closer look at the details. I used a combination of both draping and flat pattern to create the look. The fabric is a light weight 100% cotton broadcloth to give the feeling of draped canvas.

It took nearly 8-9 yards of fabric.
I hand tacked pleats into the sleeves to create the exact amount of fullness around her arms. Carefully sewn it took approximately 35 hours to complete. I loved using the striped athletic elastic tape at the waistband as a contrast.
It made the look playful but chic, I thought it would relate great back to the black and white checker pattern in the Van's shoe she designed.

Good Morning! A few weeks ago I was introduced to some beautiful murals around the city painted by the extraordinary Detroit artist Sydney G. James (see previous post). Who knew that post would lead to an opportunity to design and create a look for her! She told me "I always wear black" Thank you for trusting my vision and the color red! 😊

It was such a pleasure to work with her and her team! Her photographer really made this come together. I am humbly thankful! She looks absolutely stunning in these pics!

Hey good people! So I did this video last week Wednesday 🤦🏾‍♀️ and I forgot to post it.. Anywhoo This is the fabric I'm going to use to recreate a version of the Balenciaga dress (see previous post) Let us pray now 🙏🏾 that it doesn't come out like the Gorden Gartrell shirt 😂 (some of you are slow so Google it) lol

Also excuse my smacking I had just eaten a sausage egg and cheese sandwich 😋 mmmm

Remember the dress I started last week? Its complete but I wanted to show you some of the process and what goes into a great designed garment.
I'm hand sewing all of the shirring around the neckline (before I run it through the machine).
This way I can visually control the amount of shirring I want it to have.
This dress has an extremely full balloon sleeve with a raglan armhole.

At this point the bands still needed to be added onto the sleeve openings to finish along with the mock neck.
I ended up shortening the length by an inch.
Overall I enjoyed designing and making this dress! (I'll do a later post wearing it to show you what it looks like on)
