Art has always been my way of understanding people.
As a portrait artist working with charcoal, gold leaf, and acrylic paint, I’ve spent years studying individuality — the subtle emotions, stories, and humanity that make each person unique. Growing up, I often struggled with socializing and connecting with others directly, but art became the bridge that allowed me to see people deeply. Even when I felt disconnected, I was endlessly fascinated by how different we all are while still sharing the same emotions, struggles, and need to be seen.
That is why portraiture means so much to me.
Every piece I create is about vulnerability, identity, and human connection. My work is not just about creating likenesses — it’s about honoring people and reminding them that their existence, their story, and their individuality matter.
Winning this opportunity would change more than just my life as an artist. It would allow me to pour directly back into the city that shaped me: Detroit.
If I win the $25,000, I plan to use it to curate independent art exhibitions throughout Detroit, creating opportunities for emerging artists who may not otherwise have access to gallery spaces or exposure. I want to rent spaces, organize meaningful exhibitions, and build platforms where artists can feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
I also want to give back to local small businesses by creating free murals throughout the city — artwork that brings life, beauty, and inspiration into the community. Detroit is filled with incredible talent, culture, resilience, and creativity, and I want my success to become something that uplifts others too.
Voting for the Top 15 ends Thursday, May 21st at 7PM PDT.
