"What should we wear for our beach portrait?"
π Here's some things to keep in mind when you're preparing for your with Destin Photo along The Emerald Coast...
β
First and foremost, SOLID colors hit the mark, every-time! Avoid graphic tees and big logos. Beach portraits are and because the will never goes out of style! You'll appreciate wearing something neutral so your investment doesn't fade with the latest fad.
β
A personal favorite for beach portraits is white/khaki! (It's timeless, traditional, and complements the environment.) You can see sessions captured twenty years ago in the studio archives and sessions captured within the last several weeks where clients wore white and khaki; unless you know the clients personally, you'll never know those were captured decades apart.
β
Another great option that is also timeless is black & white/khaki -or- navy & white/khaki. The dark and light combo creates a contrast against our sugar white sand and sparkling water. If you love monochrome prints (black & white, sepia tone), GO THIS ROUTE!
βΌοΈ Pastels are beautiful, but can be tricky! β
Soft Sage Greens, β
Light Chick Yellows, and β
Lavenders work well for just about every skin tone!
β οΈ Baby pinks can be worn, as long as you're not ! Even a slight "After-Glow" can make your pink fall flat.
π« Salmon/Coral/Soft Oranges are not great. If your skin tones are between olive and pale, you'll want to avoid this color for your session. *Sunsets along cast orange/magenta hues at dusk, amplifying this color choice along with your skintone. This is why it's easier to make you look sun-kissed instead of sunburnt.
π« Baby Blues & Turquoise tend to blend in with the water and sky, like a green shirt on a green screen. Often clients feel they don't stand out enough with all the different shades of blue and turquoise found naturally on a beach location.
π« Primary colors are very 'loud' and oftentimes the bold tone clashes with the soft beach setting and pastel colors as the sunsets/rises. *Unless we're meeting Santa during your session, avoid red at all costs.
β οΈ Neon colors look great on older children and teenagers but usually miss the mark on adults.
β¨ If you choose clothing with patterns, keep it simple. For example embroidered sailboats on smocked dresses/boys shorts, simple flowers on a vine or paisley print on a flared romper.
β
When choosing a pattern for your session you'll want to target ONE person from your household to dawn the patterned fabric, and let the other members from your household wear a different solid color that compliments the chosen pattern.
Despite the color(s) you choose, keep everything fitted and flowy!
π« Avoid wearing anything that's too tight (ladies or gentlemen), we'll be sitting, bending, and moving around during your session so you'll want to be comfortable. Ladies, stay away from short/tight fitted dresses.
β
Guys, be sure to wear an undershirt so you can avoid 'sweat marks'.
β
Ladies, long flowing skirts/dresses always look great! Plus they're comfortable! Be sure the top part of your dress is fitted so when the wind grabs the extra fabric, it doesn't give the illusion that you're bigger than you are.
β
Be mindful of your undergarments.
