Thank You for Watching and Supporting Me
I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who watched the show last night and supported me. It was an amazing experience, but it turned out a lot different than I had planned. The first time I went on, I had a "win at all costs" mentality. That experience ended up changing my life in ways I never expected, leading me to meet Tim Troyer and, through that connection, travel to Uganda three times—soon to be four, as I leave again tomorrow. These trips have had a huge impact on my life, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
This time around, I didn’t go with the same focus on winning (although that would’ve been a nice bonus!). I wanted to see where God would lead me through the journey. He opened doors for some great conversations with people on set, and I even had the chance to explore New York with a friend I met the first time and share the gospel with him.
I made it a point to talk in interviews about how my first experience shaped me, especially my faith and the impact my trips to Uganda have had on my life. Unfortunately, none of those moments made it into the final cut, which was disappointing. On top of that, the show bleeped me three times…even though I didn’t curse…which was discouraging. For the record, I don’t look down on people who do cuss; it’s just not something I do. You can ask my wife how many times I’ve slipped up in the past eight years…it’s just not me. So, it was embarrassing to be portrayed that way, especially since I try to set a good example for the kids in my church youth group and at school.
Even though things didn’t go as I hoped, I know that God’s plan is always better than mine. I trust that He’ll use this experience for something greater, even if I can’t see it yet. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to watch and support me, and to those who support my trips to Uganda—your encouragement means more than I can say. Tomorrow, I leave for my fourth trip, this time with some incredible men I really look up to, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Thanks again for being part of this journey with me!
