Super cool…
Nearly 30 years ago Hawkeye's basketball player, Chris Street died... this seems impossible. If you knew Chris Street, you were a fan or you grew up in Indianola, I bet you still remember where you were when you got the news in 1993. I clearly remember. I was in sixth grade and my dad was out of town, so I was sleeping in my mom's bed when she got the call. She put her hand over her heart... everyone was devastated for the Street family. If you've never met the Street family, they are the NICEST!
I got a call this past August from an independent film maker who left a vague message about wanting to use the barn. I get a lot of phone calls, so I ignored it not thinking it was anything significant. He called again and left a message, but this time he said he wanted to use the barn to do interviews for a Chris Street documentary, which will air on the Big Ten Network in January. I immediately contacted him back. Then followed up with Betsy, who is Chris' sister, to make sure this was legit :) Betsy and I graduated together and also played sports together. As you can imagine, she was also a great basketball player!
We were so happy it all worked out and they were able to use our barn for their final interviews. We can't wait to watch the documentary currently titled, "Big Story: Chris Street".
