The Great Pottery Throwdown at Winterset Art Center 🫖
On August 1st, a group of six gathered to compete — main make: a teapot and cups inspired by something personal, plus two surprise challenges thrown in along the way. I made a Heart Teapot with Spine Tea Cups, leaning into the same themes of sustenance and resilience that keep showing up in my work lately.
This past Saturday we came back together for the exhibit and the winner announcements, and honestly — the competition was fun, but the real prize was the people. I walked away with new friends in clay, and we’re already planning our next get-together.
Huge thanks to Winterset Art Center for hosting such a great event, and to my fellow potters for making it one to remember: Catherine Goranson (Lady Bug Ceramics), Carolyn Klein, Marie Sussman, Peggy Clark, and Amy Maiers. So glad our paths crossed on the wheel. Congratulations to winners Catherine and Marie!

Hey friends! I have created a new bud vase and need your opinion. Should it have the flat rim or the ruffle rim? Also looking for some great creative names. Thanks!

Big news: I’m throwing down (literally) at the Winterset Art Center’s Pottery Throw Down, inspired by the BBC show! 🏺
As most of you know, I’m a handbuilder through and through — so this means I’ve been back at the wheel, brushing off skills I haven’t leaned on in a while. Humbling? Yes. Fun? Also yes.
I’ll be competing alongside 6 other talented potters on August 1, with a show and reception following on August 22. Come cheer us on (or come watch me wrestle a lump of clay into submission, either way).
More details soon — so excited for this one! 🙌
