The anticipation builds in the Main Hall as people find their seats, peruse programs, and visit with friends and family. The room is alive, crackling with a sense of urgency that comes only after weeks of waiting for the moment that is about to begin. It is here, in this moment, where friends and strangers begin to share a common experience that moves them to tears and cheers with such power, sple

ndor and grace that it borders on magical. Each year, a quarter of a million people come to Des Moines Performing Arts and experience the wonder, the suspense, and the joy of live theater, with nothing between them and the actors but the drama of the moment. It happens over and over again. The anticipation. The urgency. The applause. The cheers. Since 1979, Des Moines Performing Arts has grown from a dream of a small group of local business leaders, to the cornerstone of the downtown Des Moines redevelopment initiative. Des Moines Performing Arts will serve as an outstanding community performing arts center, accessible to all, where people may be educated, entertained and enlightened.

Everyone deserves the chance to live authentically, love openly, and be exactly who they are 💚🏳️‍🌈

Happy Pride Month from all of us at DMPA!

The arts have always been a place for self-expression, belonging, and celebrating what makes each of us unique. And if there’s one thing Wicked reminds us, it’s that no one gets to define who you are but you!

Happy National Dinosaur Day to those who celebrate 🦖

And by celebrate, we mean watching two actors and a Foley artist perform a shot-for-shot parody of the greatest dinosaur movie of all time!

Hold On To Your Butts stomps into the Temple Theater October 6-11 and honestly? You just have to see it to believe it.
