It's difficult to write this, but as of yesterday, all Rosy Cheeks Kinklesque shows are canceled and I am ending my work and affiliation with Fusion Events Iowa. While I am grateful for the opportunity to have started such a unique burlesque experience in Des Moines, I received information regarding the venue owner that led me to make this decision after confirmation from my own research.
The owner has a public record showing sexual abuse and other related charges. Though the cases are decades old, the lack of transparency has startled and shocked the burlesque community. Burlesque is a vulnerable experience that we, especially in Des Moines, work endlessly to keep safe. We talk extensively about consent here, and the concept of consent necklaces is one that out of town performers have even taken back to their communities.
It's important to note that not all burlesque performancers are experiencers of sexual assault or gender-based violence, but many are, myself included. It takes a lot for people to feel safe and confident to get on stage, and the community they are in makes a huge difference. The space they are in makes a huge difference, especially when combined with the equally vulnerable kink community.
This decision wasn't made lightly, but for the safety of my cast, crew, and audience, Rosy Cheeks Kinklesque will be on hiatus until a new home is found.
With love, warmth, and care,
Eden Draconis
