News!
I have been chosen as a grant recipient for Oneida's Dollars for Arts Program! This is the third time that I have been selected. This time, it's for my photography.
Directly from my grant proposal:
"My project entails seeking out historical photos that were taken around the Oneida Nation Reservation and capturing updated pictures at these locations. The photos will be taken on 35mm film. I am looking to work with various departments in the Oneida Nation organization, with a primary focus on working with the Kahnekano·lú Cultural Center for historical photos. The intention is to showcase how the reservation has changed over time, spotlighting growth, human impact, and any other differences that have come to be.
This project will be a valuable contribution to the documented history of the Oneida Nation. It puts a spotlight on Oneida’s time in Wisconsin and helps the community orient themselves to what our history has been like since arriving in Wisconsin. This project will represent a checkpoint in our history, from which years down the line, this project could be picked up again and built upon, whether that artist is me or someone else. It could start a generations-long chain reaction that could lead to continued deliberate history documentation of this nature."
This officially makes it the best year I've had for my photography yet. I try to continue to treat my own artistic pursuits with the seriousness they deserve. That deserved seriousness is not driven by external sources, it is a gift to myself in pursuing something I love dearly and something that is most closely aligned with my true nature. I will continue to grow and continue to treat my pursuits with respect, craft, and curiosity. This project is a reflection of that desired trajectory.
