Five Roots

Five Roots a movement of artists and creatives working to bring culture and art to their community. photos x tweets -

FIVE ROOTS is an art, education and community collective. FIVE ROOTS, which has its literal “roots” in the Five Points community was started to promote the inclusion of art and creativity in our communities, lower income schools and our daily lives. Our plan of action is to host monthly community events (artist workshops, educational and informational seminars, themed fundraising parties etc.) tha

t showcase a wide array of art, culture, and entertaining local and national talent. In addition to these events we will also be presenting schools, childcare centers and youth programs with mentorships, assembly programs, free exposure to concerts, galleries, behind the scenes visits to national productions and more in an effort to foster and support creativity in kids. Harking back to the culture and style of the Five Points community in the early 1920’s-50’s, FIVE ROOTS intends to be the catalyst for a collaborative, supportive and inspiring entertainment and art community throughout Denver. Jon Shockness [Executive Director]
Kayla Marque [Outreach & Community Director]
Quinn Marchman [Director Of Programs]
Khalil Arcady [Communication & Promotion Director]
Ryan Foo [Education Coordinator]

Being a feminist in public often feels like shouting my cause into the void — whether I'm having a conversation with real humans or leading a discussion on social media about the concept of basic human rights for female-identified people, a very small percentage of folks I know actually want...

Such an amazing TED lecture from Theaster Gates on reviving neighborhoods with ART.

Theaster Gates, a potter by training and a social activist by calling, wanted to do something about the sorry state of his neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. So he did, transforming abandoned buildings to create community hubs that connect and inspire those who still live there (and draw in…

3 ways in which we can make progress.

1. Empowerment - Where policies and systems are in place to devalue the humanity of POC we need to make conscious efforts to show people their worth

2. Ownership - Help these communities and the people within them to build assets not liabilities. Creating and owning business that help fuel the culture and are duplicatable.

3. Love - When people love and value themselves that energy and positivity spreads. Teach love you'll receive love.
